v-portrait exhibition at The Society for Menstrual Cycle Research Conference, Pittsburgh, June 2, 2011

SMCR 2011 was held in Pittsburgh, PA at Chatham University from June 2-4, 2011. The conference was an excellent opportunity to be exposed to the richness of multidisciplinary perspectives on the menstrual cycle and women’s reproductive physiology from a diversity of feminist, woman-centred perspectives. It’s a research conference that provides a venue for collegial interactions across disciplines such as nursing, medicine, psychology, anthropology, women’s studies, communications, and film studies. It also provides a venue for activists, artists and researchers to meet. Interested lay people are also welcome to attend. The title of this year’s conference was Embodied Consciousness, Informed Choices: Critical Perspectives On the Menstrual Cycle. You can view some of the conference proceedings (video) here.

I exhibited the v-portraits and gave a talk about vagina vérité® —an unabashed exploration of the plain, ordinary, mysterious matter of vaginas — at the reception.
